March in Like a Lamb and Sure Signs of Spring...

I was able to catch this sunset Thursday evening. The setting sun is very close to the water; another week or two and we will have wonderful shots from the water. What a difference a week makes. These trees were full of snow last weekend.
Although the temperatures have been mild with plentiful sunshine since March came in like a lamb, it will take some very warm temps to make a dent in the tons of snow and ice on the water.
Here is s sure sign Spring is around the corner and we are on the downside of winter.
Daffodils emerging from the frozen ground, What a Wonderful sight!!!
The only down side of this wonderful weather is that March will leave us as a roaring lion. (Maybe Mother Nature will not follow-through this year, we can only hope.)

The Lake Erie Tundra Continues...

Well here we are the last day of February and Old Man Winter has clearly settled in for a "Long Winter's Nap". The howling winds from the past few days sure made for some major snow removal efforts. Sam and Andrea have been busy keeping the walks clear.
This poor little Red Maple on the east side of the Beach House is almost buried in the snow as a result of the blowing snow and the actual snowfall from the past few days.
Our guests this morning are cozy inside enjoying Dave's breakfast and Shirley's hospitality. I have not seen anyone venture out yet.
It will be interesting what tomorrow will bring, the first day of March. Will the month come in like a roaring lion or a calm little lamb? I am afraid to watch the weather. I think we are all ready for Spring, however we know the March weather can be brutal with much snowfall.

I have to say the snow on the trees is gorgeous. From our back door, it has some resemblance of a ski village. Maybe I should take up cross-country skiing.

On a very frigid note, yesterday was the 14th Annual Law Enforcement Polar Bear Plunge, held at Geneva State Park. Here is a link to the Star Beacon Coverage.

Welcome to the Lake Erie Tundra

The weather has been interesting the past weeks, has it not?
These shots were taken this morning.
There is zero evidence of any open water within view. It is a gorgeous site, however very chilly to say the least.
I braved the cold @7:30am to get this shot. The Moon has been absolutely spectacular this week.
Here is a view from the East at the same time, a glimpse of the sun beginning to rise.
What a difference a week makes, even in the dead of winter.

January Shutdown Activities

We are back from Florida and in the thick of getting everything ready to re-open. The staff has been very busy deep cleaning, painting and repairing. Sam and Brad are doing their magic.
Here is a sure sign of their presence.

Sam working on lighting in the tasting room.
This week's weather was just a shade chillier than it was in South Florida. I guess it is better than the blizzardly time we missed. It was wonderful to come home to minimal snow.
The fall cabbage and pansies are still in bloom.Although the weather is somewhat mild, the effects from earlier in the month remain on the shore of Lake Erie.

Ice on the Rocks and The Holiday Trek

Well Old Man Winter has definitely moved in. The ice on the rocks is a vivid clue to "His" presence .I was walking down the steps toward the beach and saw a family of ducks bathing. the unfortunate part is they also saw me and flew away. I did get a glimpse of them leaving.

Here are a few shots of the property. Although the sun is shining and the sky bright blue it is very lonely looking, don't you think?

The chairs on the patios are almost crying for a guest to venture out and sit on them to melt the snow and warm them up.

Oh a happier note, we had the privilege of being part of the Geneva-on-the-Lake Holiday Trek last weekend. Here Andrea is playing photographer after the group finished their snack of Four Cheese Pasta with Chicken accompanied by Holiday Mimosa.

Here they are heading out to the next leg of their journey to enjoy subsequent holiday spirit and food.
The Trek is hosted by Betty from The High Tide. Most establishments of the Village participate. We were their second stop.
